My Senior Year Plan

The start of school is approaching, so it’s time to share my senior year curriculum plan! This year, I will have only 3.5 credits as opposed to the 7 credits of junior year and the 11 each in sophomore and freshman years.  

 

• Rhetoric 2/Senior Thesis (Wilson Hill Academy)

• AP Art History (Wilson Hill Academy)

• Economics (Economics for Everyone, self-paced)

• Calculus (Anderson University)

 

Rhetoric 2/Senior Thesis 

This summer, I took a readiness course to prepare for this class, which I will take through Wilson Hill Academy. This class starts with selecting a topic that one can argue about. Then I will write a 12-15–page paper on my chosen topic. Toward the end of the school year, I will give a presentation condensed from my paper. The presentation will conclude with a defense where I will be asked questions from a panel as well as an audience about my topic. The school year is spent in writing and preparing for the presentation and defense, which is about an hour long. It’s going to be a very hard class, but I think I will also really enjoy it.  

 

AP Art History 

In high school, I have taken two classes a year through Wilson Hill. This year along with Senior Thesis, I am taking AP Art History. Although art has never been my best or favorite subject, I have heard really good things about this class. Additionally, a large group of my friends will be taking this class with me, and I will have a teacher I have had in both sophomore and junior year for different classes. I will take the AP exam in May. 

 

Economics 

My sister and I will be taking this semester long course together. We are using the Economics for Everybody curriculum with R.C. Sproul Jr. It’s a self-paced course that has video lessons and workbook to print out. At the end of the course, we are considering using Modern States to prepare for and take the CLEP exam in either micro- or macroeconomics.  

 

Calculus 

In the second semester of the school year, I will be taking calculus through dual enrollment. I plan to take the course through Anderson University, one of my top college choices. Having finished precalculus in junior year, I want to end my high school math career with a calculus course.  

 

Credit-wise I have a much lighter year than some of my previous years of high school. But since these courses will be challenging and combined with college and scholarship applications, as well as extracurriculars, I know I will be staying busy this school year!
