After Carson-Newman University, my family visited Montreat College. Here is some of the information we learned on our tour.
The Basics
Montreat is a tiny, private college located in Montreat, North Carolina. There are only about 700 undergraduate students with a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio. They are a Christian college that is related to the Presbyterian Church.
The Christian Aspect
Montreat seems to be a very firm Christian college. They have chapel services every Monday and Wednesday at 10:00 am in Graham Chapel (seen above). This is the chapel where Billy Graham and his wife were married. There are 15 required chapel credits per semester, 10 of which must come from chapel or chapel programs. The other 5 are electives that students can obtain through several different activities, including going to chapel or doing community service. Additionally, the staff is required to sign a statement of faith.
Academics
Montreat offers 24 majors and 60 minors. Many of these majors have multiple concentrations. For instance, the Business Administration program has concentrations in management, cybersecurity, international business, marketing, music business, and sports management. Montreat is also a designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency.
