As the final post in this college tours series, I am writing about Cedarville University. I toured this college back in the summer after freshman year, and have now come full circle, going to the All-Access event last weekend for accepted students.
The Basics
Cedarville is a small, private, Christian university located in Cedarville, Ohio. They are a Baptist-affiliated school, with just over 6000 enrolled students. Cedarville operates on the foundation of helping students make the most of their 1000 days (which is about how much time they will spend on the Cedarville campus), they center much of their work around this goal.
The Christian Aspect
Cedarville is a very strongly Christian university. Chapel happens every weekday and is required each time with some skips per semester. Many students and professors told us that chapel is one of their favorite parts of the college. During our visit, we were able to sit in on a chapel, and the auditorium was full of students. The president spoke at the one we attended, though they are led by a wide variety of speakers throughout the year.
There is also a required Bible minor for every student. This is a 15-credit, 5-class, minor that is part of the core curriculum. The courses include The Bible and the Gospel, Old Testament Literature, New Testament Literature, Theology I, and Theology II.
Academics
Cedarville has over 140 major and minor options for students, which are mostly part of nine different schools. Some majors have tracks that you can take within the degree, such as the Management major in the school of business, which allows for a focus in Entrepreneurship. There is also a graduate school, which has a wide variety of post-graduate degree options. Some of the biggest schools seem to be the School of Business, the School of Engineering and Computer Science, and the School of Biblical and Theological Studies.
Additionally, Cedarville has an honors program. This program consists of one two-semester, 10-credit course in freshman year, as well as two sections of honors seminar, and a capstone experience. It seems to be a very classically based program, with a focus on discussion and primary source texts in the freshman class. The following classes include such options as C.S. Lewis, the Philosophy of Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Luther. And finally, in senior year, you can either choose to write a thesis or take a two-course Colloquium that integrates faith and learning.
The student to faculty ratio is 15:1, and the professors seem to know their students well and are invested in their students’ lives.

Student Life
Cedarville University is an NCAA DII school for sports. They offer 8 men’s sports and 9 women’s sports, including golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. There is also a list of intramurals with opportunities for disc golf, flag football, pickleball, and more. These great options for staying active also include an exercise studio, a gymnasium, a field house, and a climbing wall.
Additionally, Cedarville has opportunities for student clubs/organizations, theatre, and music and worship. Their organizations include academic, sports, and student groups. There are also plenty of options for Bible studies and discipleship to help you grow as a Christian during your 1000 days.
Cedarville has many housing options on campus, most of which do seem to be mixed from freshman to seniors, although there are some that are mostly for certain years. There are two types of dorms: unit style and hall style. Unit style has a few sets of bedrooms organized around a shared bathroom and lounge space, while hall style has an entire hall sharing a larger bathroom and lounge space. According to the website, 85% of students live on campus, and there are 27 residence halls available.
